Damian Lyons has been named the 2015/16 Wattle Valley WNBL Referee of the Year.
Lyons, from Western Australia, has officiated in the NBL and WNBL since 2005/06, clocking almost 100 games in the WNBL and has earned the Referee of the Year award for the third time after previously winning in 2013 and 2014.
A FIBA official as of 2009, Lyons has refereed at the U20 European Championship for Men in 2010 and 2012, the Sino-Australia Challenge in 2014 between the Boomers and China and attended the NBA Summer camp in the same year.
“Damian has consistently performed at a WNBL level this season and his third Referee of the Year nomination is well deserved,” said Basketball Australia Officials Manager, Peter Carey.
“Through his on-court officiating, he has earned the respect of not only the players but his peers as well.”
As further example of his credentials for the 2015/16 Referee of the Year, Lyons is the only referee to be named to officiate all three games of the best-of-three Grand Final series, beginning this Saturday night in Perth.
