MAC Adelaide Lightning would like to wish the Jayco Opals squad all the best as they head off to Rio for the Olympic test event games which kick off next Friday, 15 January.
The Jayco Opals, which retains much of the squad that won the bronze medal at the 2014 World Championships, will contest the test event at the Carioca Arena at Barra Olympic Park, the arena where the Olympics finals will be held for Women’s Basketball.
MAC Adelaide Lightning player, Leilani Mitchell said the test event is a major step in the preparation for the Olympics.
“I’m looking forward to representing Australia in the Rio test event,” she said.
“The Olympics is only 7 months away so I’m excited to also see how the city and venues are coming along and it’s always a great opportunity and honour to play for the Opals.”
Five South Australian players will also travel to Rio for the test event including; Abby Bishop (Canberra Capitals), Cayla George (Townsville Fire), Tess Madgen (Melbourne Boomers), Erin Phillips (LA Sparks University) and Stephanie Talbot (Canberra Capitals).
