Tayla Roberts is 193 cm from Launceston Tornadoes in the SEABL averaging 16.4ppg, 9.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.
Roberts said that she plays the 4/5 man roll, “I would say that I’m a hard working player, with a strong presence inside the key. When I’m in good shape I’m pretty quick for my size, which is quite handy and surprises people.”
“I feel that deciding on Adelaide will be a great move for me, allowing me a great opportunity, as long as I work hard for it. After a few quiet years in basketball and not achieving what I hoped, I believe that this is will put me in a great position to prove what I’m capable of and no doubt working with a coach of Chris’s calibre, I will be able to make big improvements to my game. To say I’m excited is an understatement.
“One of the things I love most about basketball is the comradery you form with your teammates. I also love the competitiveness that basketball brings. I’m a pretty competitive person, which was instilled by my parents.
“I’m really excited about working with Chris. He is a really passionate coach and great at what he does. I know that if I work really hard and do everything Chris asks, my game will make massive improvements and I’m confident that I will be able to start achieving my goals. Firstly really establishing myself in the WNBL and making a mark. I really want to establish myself in a WNBL and make a mark. One day I would love to make an Olympic team and play in the WNBA/Europe. I’m just going to take each day as it comes and make sure I do everything possible to get better and put myself in a better position.
“Chris said it will probably be a tough year, going through a rebuilding phase. Having players like Laura Hodges play for Adelaide is really exciting and I’m hoping that we can prove a few people wrong and still have a really successful season.”
Coach Chris Lucas expressed his excitement in having Roberts sign with us, “Tayla is 6’3 and has been playing around the league for a few years already, and hasn’t really hasn’t excelled since her Junior success in U19 level. I’m really excited to have her in the group, she brings some balance and some genuine size and flexibility to the group.
“I will challenge her to get to where she is capable of. She is working hard and performing really well in SEABL level and it will be great to have her on board! She is currently training and will be arriving Mid-September to join the team.”
When Tayla, is not on the court training, she says, “If I’m not playing basketball, I’m probably hanging out with my family and friends. I love to read, I usually read a new book every second week. I also love “adventures”, just taking a day trip to somewhere I’ve never been before and exploring.”
Roberts joins other teammates Hodges, Logic, Good, Ciabattoni and Planeta to the teams roster.
