Bendigo Bank Spirit superstar Kelsey Griffin is looking forward to spending her first winter a long way from the snow.
The two-time WNBL Grand Final MVP is staying in Australia in the off-season, after knocking back opportunities to return to the WNBA.
After becoming an Australian citizen this season, the power forward is focussing on her goal to wear the Green and Gold.
“I am really excited to be chosen in the Opals training squad and I want to give that everything I can,” she said.
“While I enjoyed the WNBA, I love Australia more and want to contribute as much as I can to the Opals and to Australia and Bendigo.”
The 28 year old, who was taken pick three in the 2010 WNBA draft, is sitting out basketball this winter, ensuring she will be cherry ripe if Rio calls.
“I’m really looking forward to an Australian ‘winter’ and spending some time getting to know this country more,” she said.
“I’m keen to help others reach their goals by speaking at functions and events and telling my story.
“I’m also looking forward to using my skills and experience on the court to do some one-on-one coaching.
“It’s going to be a great off-season.”
