The Bendigo Bank Spirit have put the finishing touches to their coaching staff for the 2016-17 WNBL season, adding Ballarat Miners SEABL assistant coach Nathan Cooper-Brown.
Cooper-Brown, who is also Basketball Ballarat’s manager of athlete and coach development, joins head coach Simon Pritchard and assistants Andrea Walsh and David Flint.
Pritchard said he was impressed with what he saw of the 35-year-old during a two-week stint with Ballarat Basketball.
“It was apparent from my first meeting that he was an advanced coach who cared deeply for his program and athletes,” he said.
“He will work with the team on both late-week preparations and all home games in a role that should continue to expose regional coaches to elite programs and athletes.
“We will also gain from his vast experience preparing athletes and from his game-day evaluations.”
Cooper-Brown is a former Victorian Titans NBL development player.
He has a long association with SEABL club Sandringham Sabres as a player, men’s assistant coach and junior coach.
Cooper-Brown said coaching at the highest level had been a dream of his since he was a player.
“I believe my passion and knowledge will benefit the team and the coaching staff,” he said.
“Being able to work with the athletes in a skill-development environment, and contribute to opposition scouting, will be areas I feel I can help make a difference.”
The Spirit start their 2016-17 WNBL campaign this Saturday night at Bendigo Stadium against Adelaide Lightning.
