NURSE GOES BIG AND EARNS ROUND ONE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

October 16, 2018 | WNBL news

A couple of imports flexed their muscle in the opening round of the 2018/19 Chemist Warehouse WNBL season but Kia Nurse shone brightest as she led the UC Capitals to a big win on the road against the Sydney Uni Flames.

Scoring 26 points, Nurse hit 9-17 from the field and showcased a deadly three-point shot with 4-8 shooting from beyond the arc as well.

She had a subdued start with only four points and an assist in the first term but exploded in the second quarter as she gave the Caps an insurmountable lead.

Nurse began the period with a jumper and halfway through the quarter, the Caps moved in front by 18 points.

The import then caught fire, nailing consecutive three-pointers in the space of 30 seconds and two minutes later, Nurse knocked down two triples in a row in another 25-second period.

Following that onslaught, the Caps’ lead had ballooned to 23 and they were able to cruise through the second half to finish with a 21-point victory.

Having only had one training session with the team before hitting the court on Friday night, coach Paul Goriss has already sent a warning to the rest of the competition stating that Nurse will only get better as the season wears on.

Kia Nurse Round 1 Stats: 26 points on 9-17 (53%) shooting including 4-8 three-point shooting, three rebounds, three assists and one steal.
