ROUND 12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK- KIA NURSE

December 31, 2018 | WNBL news

Kia Nurse of the UC Capitals has been named the Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Nurse hit 13 three-pointers across two wins in Round 12 as she joined Lindsay Allen and teammate Kelsey Griffin as the only players to receive multiple Player of the Week nods this season.

Averaging a whopping 29.5 points per game across the two wins, Nurse’s hot shooting helped the UC Caps jump to first in the WNBL standings.

Nurse’s big weekend saw her scoring average jump to 18 points per game, good enough for sixth in the league, while she is now shooting at 36% from beyond the arc.

In Friday night’s contest against Townsville, Nurse dropped a career-high 33 points, 24 of which came before the main break as the Caps opened up a 25-point lead.

She drilled seven triples in a devastating offensive performance and added four rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Two days later, the red-hot Caps visited Dandenong and again got out to a fast start courtesy of Nurse who hit another four three’s in the first half.

She went on to finish with 26 points and six three-pointers, five assists, two steals and a block as the Caps doubled the Rangers tally of 43- the lowest score for any team in 2018/19.

Nurse’s incredible weekend almost came undone when she hurt her knee down the stretch against the Rangers but the early diagnosis is that she has done no serious damage.

In addition to a winning streak of five, Nurse also helped the Caps clinch their place in the playoffs for the first time in eight years.

Kia Nurse Round 12 stats: 29.5 points on 56% shooting including 13-22 (59%) from three, three rebounds, four assists and 1.5 steals per game.
