Rangers Sign Three Squad Members

Dandenong Basketball is happy to announce the signing of Bree Whatman, Taylah Gilliam and Saraid Taylor as Jayco Rangers for the 2018/19 WNBL season.

All three players will be making their return to the program in 2018-19, having all worn the Jayco Rangers jersey in previous seasons.

Rangers head coach Larissa Anderson stated that she’s thrilled to have Bree, Taylah and Saraid back on board for WNBL19, adding three young professional stars with a strong amount of elite basketball experience.

“I cannot speak any more highly of these girls, it is so great to have them as part of our team,” said Anderson. “They are all professional players and superb people, and I know exactly what I’ll get from all three on and off-the-court.”

Long-time Dandenong star Bree Whatman re-joins the Jayco Rangers after a strong season with Diamond Valley during SEABL18, leading the Eagles from the point to a 12-8 record. Having been a part of the Dandenong Basketball program since U/8’s, Bree is well known throughout the Dandenong community and her development under the association is something ‘we are all proud of’, stated Coach Anderson.

“Bree has worked extremely hard over the last few months and you can see it transfer on court now as a more confident player that is relishing this opportunity”, said Anderson. “It is fantastic to have her back and I am looking forward to working with her over the next few months.”

That same strong work ethic can also be seen in fellow guard Taylah Gilliam, who enjoyed a great debut SEABL season for the Rangers in 2018. Quick with the ball and a strong outside shooter, Taylah’s quick development has surprised many people within the organisation, a testament to her hard work on the training track. This driven attitude has been very apparent to Coach Anderson during the WNBL preseason so far, with Larissa stating that Taylah ‘is an absolute pleasure to work with’.

“Taylah is such an exciting talent, she has taken the tougher road to get here and I love her ‘never give up’ attitude”, said Anderson. “After a great SEABL debut season, we are only just seeing the start of what Tay is capable of and I am very much looking forward to watching and being a part of her development in the coming months at the Jayco Rangers.”

Finally, we will also see the return of Saraid Taylor to our WNBL program in 2018-19, with the ever-bubbly and positive star rejoining the team after missing most of last season to injury. An incredibly well-spoken and professional young player, Saraid brings a great energy to the group that is matched with her strong on-court ability. Having watched Saraid’s development at Nunawading and now with McKinnon Cougars in the BigV Competition, Coach Anderson is thrilled to have Saraid back with the group for a big 2018-19 WNBL season.

“Saraid is such a wonderful person to have around our group, if every player could have her positive attitude only good things would happen!” said Anderson. “She never gives up on-the-court and always pushes herself and her everyone around her to be better. After a solid Big V season, you can really see her game coming together and will be great to see her game continue to develop in the coming months.”
