The Dandenong Rangers, have just signed 2 key players for the 2015/16 WNBL season.
Steph Cumming who spent the last 2 seasons in Townville after spending her entire career at the Rangers is back. She needed a change of environment and in the end played in 2 WNBL Grand Finals with Townsville Fire, winning the most recent one. She now has 2 National titles under her belt and is hungry for a third.
Aimie Clydesdale, also a Dandenong junior has signed on again with the Rangers. Aimie took the opportunity that became available in the second half of last season after starting point guard Kathleen McLeod went down with a knee injury. She went on to make the Australia Opals squad and survived the 1st cut. She’s on a high at the moment and will take on much larger responsibility next season.
From the outset Larissa Anderson has been working hard on getting a competitive team together and in doing so providing opportunities for locals to play in one of the top 4 leagues in the world.
“Its testament to the Dandenong Program that Larissa has the quality of players available for WNBL selection from our own back yard.” CEO David Graham says. “We’re all excited that Steph is back and believe she’ll play a huge role in our championship campaign next season. She a free flowing guard with a great shot and solid defensive fundamentals. Larissa has worked hard to lure her back to the program which I know all of Dandenong will be happy about”.
David goes on to say: ”And with Aimie, she has always had huge potential and the opportunity she took last season when Kath went down, proved to many including herself that she could step up and perform in big game situations. She’ll definitely play a much larger role next season and will flourish under the guidance of Larissa, who also coaches her in the SEABL competition.
So the big name signings are starting to come for the Rangers who already have Tegan Cunningham returning for the 2nd year of her 2 year deal, along with Tenaya Phillips also in the 2nd year of her contract.
More great news for the Rangers. The Wattle Valley WNBL 2015/16 kicks off in October.
