With just a month to go, the countdown is well and truly on to the start of the 2016/17 WNBL season, which will tip off with an away trip to take on the Canberra Capitals on Saturday October 8th.
The Dandenong Jayco Rangers will step up their pre-season preparations for the upcoming WNBL Season, when the team has its first hitout next Thursday September 15th against a SEABL Invitational Team.
The game will take place at Dandenong Stadium at 7pm with all Rangers fans encouraged to come down and get their first look at the 2016/17 squad.
Entering her 2nd season at the helm, Head Coach Larissa Anderson told Dandenong Basketball: “It is always hard to get the pre-season matches you need with such a short, sharp turn around between the SEABL and WNBL, but there are some great SEABL players not committed to a WNBL team that will give us a quality first game”.
Following next Thursday’s match, the Jayco Rangers will take on the Melbourne Boomers at Nunawading Stadium on Friday September 23rd with Jacinta Kennedy, development player Saraid Taylor and Anderson herself returning to their grass roots. “I know myself, Jacinta and our newest addition Saraid are all looking forward to our game at Nunawading Stadium where all three of us played juniors,” said Anderson. “It is always great to get back to your old stomping ground”.
The following night on September 24th the Jayco Rangers will play the Bendigo Spirit at Werribee Sports Complex, tipping off at 7pm. “It is fantastic to be able to have the three Victorian WNBL sides have a good hit out against each other,” said Anderson. “Hopefully having these games are at different locations around Melbourne will give fans the opportunity to come along and support the WNBL and some of their favourite players at their local stadiums”.
The Jayco Rangers playing roster and coaching staff will be officially unveiled next week prior to next Thursday’s first preseason matchup. The first official Home Game of the 2016/17 season will be on Sunday 16th October against Perth Lynx at 5pm.
