Dandenong Basketball is overjoyed to announce the re-signing of Dandenong legend Jacinta Kennedy to the Jayco Rangers for the WNBL 16/17 season.
The three-time champion made her return to the WNBL last year after a decade away from the game, providing an important veteran presence to a young Rangers squad. A key factor in the Rangers successful 15/16 season, Jacinta’s teammates awarded her with the prestigious Janine Fielder Award at the season’s end, awarded to the player whose teammates most enjoyed playing and training with throughout the season.
Jacinta told Dandenong Basketball she can’t wait to get back on the court in Dandenong, stating that she’s excited to be playing another season with ‘our wonderful group of girls’.
“I can’t wait to get our their and achieve what I know we can next season”, said Jacinta. “Personally I hope to be able to contribute in an even bigger way this season; as a team I’m hoping we can get back to the finals once again and then go one or two better this time around.”
In 2006 Jacinta put her basketball career on hold, the same year she won Commonwealth Gold in Melbourne. Already having achieved so much in her young basketball career, Jacinta opted to travel overseas and support her Socceroo husband Josh Kennedy as they began to build their young family.
But Jacinta is firmly back in the WNBL fold now, something Rangers coach Larissa Anderson is delighted about.
“It’s fantastic to have Jacinta back on board for a second season”, Anderson told Dandenong Basketball. “Cinno brings an enormous amount to our team and club and made a big impact with the group on and off the court last season. She brings a great level of experience and professionalism, and amazingly is only getting better”
Playing in what will be her 8th season, Jacinta’s WNBL career is already littered with awards, winning titles with Canberra & Dandenong, voted into the WNBL All Star Five in 2004 and 2006, and winning the Grand Final MVP in the second of back-to-back titles here with the Jayco Rangers. Jacinta and her teammates will look to add some more silverware in this upcoming 16/17 season, something Elite Teams Administration Manager Trish Fallon believes they can do with Jacinta on board.
“We’re very excited to have Jacinta returning after her standout 15/16 WNBL season”, said Fallon. “Jacinta brings experience, leadership and a strong work ethic to the Rangers team, whilst adding further frontcourt depth alongside Ally Malott and Lauren Scherf. Highly respected by teammates and opposition players, we look forward to another great season from Jacinta”.
