Jayco Rangers Win In Final Seconds

It took to the dying seconds for the Jayco Rangers to take the lead in Round 1, but they lead for when it mattered most on Saturday: at the end!

A fantastic effort on the road, your Jayco Rangers took the W over a strong Capitals home squad, who held the lead in WNBL Round 1 all the way up until Steph Cumming hit two huge free throws with 2.0 left in the fourth quarter.

Struggling offensively all night, Dandenong kept pushing along all night despite going down 18 in the second and 13 in the fourth. Sara Blicavs and Nat Novosel were outstanding in bolstering a poor shooting night from the rest of the team, combining for 45 points and 16/29 shooting.

When the ball isn’t bouncing the way you want it to offensively you’ve got to start focusing on your defense, and that’s exactly what the Rangers did against the Capitals, holding them to just 28 in the second half.

Rangers coach Larissa Anderson was thrilled to escape Canberra with the win, impressed with the young Capitals side but proud of never-say-die attitude of the Rangers.

“I thought it was a really gutsy effort tonight”, said Larissa. “At the end of the day we’ll have a lot of things to pick a part, but sometimes a wins a win…I couldn’t be more proud of the girls finishing this one off strong.”

We now look ahead to WNBL Round 2, as the Jayco Rangers head north to take on the Bendigo Spirit on Saturday, and then return home to Dandenong Stadium to take on the Perth Lynx in what’s sure to be a fantastic day of WNBL basketball!
