Rangers Get W On Opening Night

The Jayco Rangers might’ve gone 1-1 in Round 2 but the weekend ended with a bang, as we topped last year’s runners-up Perth Lynx in a fiery shooting performance.

After dropping a game in Bendigo on Saturday after a poor shooting night, the Rangers fought through the fatigue and performed brilliantly on Sunday, shooting 50% from deep and holding the Perth Lynx to just 35% overall.

Head Coach Larissa Anderson wasn’t surprised that the Rangers managed to put together a strong performance, but was nonetheless proud of her team after a difficult game the night before.

“I am extremely proud of how quickly they put yesterday behind them”, said Anderson. “They learnt quickly and put on a such a good show today, I think both teams put on a great show in front of a great crowd.”

Steph Cumming and Nat Novosel were terrific for the Jayco Rangers in this one, with Steph scoring 31 points and grabbing 12 rebounds and Nat scoring 19 of her own along with 9 assists and 9 rebounds.

In the post game press conference Steph stated that she didn’t feel like she in the zone or on fire, despite shooting 5-8 from deep.

“I felt like I just happened to be the one at the end of all the passes, and they were open shots so I didnt think twice about shooting them”, said Cumming. “When you’re getting so open from such good ball movement they just go down, you’re not thinking about should I make the extra pass or should I drive that, you just shoot it”.

The Jayco Rangers will now look ahead to next Friday October 21, as the 2015 WNBL Champion Townsville Fire come to Dandenong Stadium. Sure to be an enthralling contest, make sure you’re here this Friday to cheer your Dandenong stars on to another home victory!
