The Jayco Rangers & Perth Lynx will create history this Saturday as they hit the court for Game One of the very first Best-Of-Three Semi Finals series.
After fifteen consecutive seasons of missing the finals, Perth will compete in the playoffs for the second year running after falling to Townsville in the 2016/17 Finals. The Jayco Rangers will have a similar chip on their shoulder after bouncing out in the first round last year, as they attempt to grab another title in their seventh consecutive finals run.
Both Larissa Anderson and Andy Stewart are in their second year as head coaches of Dandenong & Perth and will no doubt be keenly studying their previous matchups this season, including last week’s 81-59 Rangers victory.
Having taken the series 3-1 the Jayco Rangers will be filled with confidence that they can beat the deep shooting Lynx squad, with their only loss occurring on the road in a tough 87-77 game in Round 16.
That’s not to say they won’t be weary of the the fiery Lynx squad however, especially with the competitions leading scorer Sami Whitcomb playing in Lynx red. Whitcomb has been electric all year, leading the league in 3PT shots made and averaging an outstanding 23.5 points per game.
Whether the Rangers defense can contain Whitcomb could be the main key in this one and has been a marker for success in all of the Rangers win against Perth, holding her to 18 points per game. Also look for a big time performance by Rangers superstar Sara Blicavs, who showed the league last year that she loves playing under the brightest lights, scoring a career-high 38 points in last year’s elimination final.
It’s going to be a nail-biting Best-Of-Three series Rangers fans! We need you all here cheering us on LOUD in these huge games, let’s get behind our Rangers stars and let them know we’re #RangerProud!
