Rangers Round 10 Recap

The Dandenong Jayco Rangers have sent a loud and clear message to the rest of the league that they are the team to beat so far, topping Adelaide Lightning on Friday and then pummeling the second placed Perth Lynx.

Grabbing back-to-back wins was no easy task to accomplish at the start of the weekend, but the Jayco Rangers proved themselves to be very much up to it, now sitting clear at 1st place; two wins clear of Bendigo Spirit.

It all started with a trip to South Australia to take on Adelaide, in a rematch of Round 9’s uncomfortably close Rangers victory. But the winless Lightning could not repeat that pressure this week, allowing Dandenong to lead by 18 at the half and never again getting within reach, losing to the Rangers 79-64.

Sara Blicavs was outstanding against the Lightning, slicing through the defence for 25 points and grabbing 6 offensive boards to go along with 13 overall. Amelia Todhunter also continued her fine form with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.

The Jayco Rangers could not put up their feet for the rest of the weekend however, still facing a matchup with the fiery Perth Lynx. A top of the table clash, the Lynx featured the league’s top scorer in Sami Whitcomb at 24.0ppg and Australian Opals Nat Burton and Tess Lavey.

But despite that fire power the Rangers managed to contain the Lynx offense, forcing Whitcomb into 3-17 shooting and just 32% FG Shooting as a team.

Steph Cumming had another brilliant game as she put up 22 points including 4-5 threes to go along with 11 boards, and Ally Malott continued her upward form swing with a surperb 18 points from just 22 minutes of play.

An amazing effort to grab two road wins on a back-to-back roadtrip; 7000km from Dandenong to Perth and back, and two huge Rangers victories! One more game till a well-earned Christmas break, but it’s already come early for all of us Rangers fans!
