Boomers Announce Final Squad With Josie Stockill Signing
With less than eight week’s until the start of the 2018/19 Chemist Warehouse WNBL season, the Deakin Melbourne Boomers have finalised its squad with the news Tall Fern Josie Stockill has signed as a Development Player.
A graduate from Colgate University, where she set a number of records across her four-year stay, Stockill has been a leading player over the last two years with Sunbury in the Big V State Championship League under the guidance of Coach Kennedy Kereama (Deakin Melbourne Boomers Assistant Coach).
“I am proud and very excited for this opportunity to be part of the Boomers family,” Josie said upon signing.
“I have been coached by Guy with the New Zealand Tall Ferns team before, and I look forward to further developing my game under his leadership. This will be an exciting season for the club and I am looking forward to contributing to our success as a team,” Josie added.
WNBA stars Steph Talbot, Cayla George and Lindsay Allen will join the likes of Opals leader Jenna O’Hea in the Boomers team, while Ezi Magbegor, Monique Conti and Jaz Shelley will reunite to play on the same team since their gold medal heroics at the U17 World Championships in 2016.
“I’m really pleased with the squad our selection committee has brought together, there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes and the end result looks exciting” said Coach Guy Molloy.
“We’re about to get into pre-season and our whole coaching staff is really looking forward to working with the players. It’s a squad that doesn’t lack work ethic or desire, they really want to win.”
