Boomers sign another young gun, D’Angelo agrees to 4yr deal

The Deakin Melbourne Boomers have signed talented young guard Chelsea D’Angelo to an extended contract, the quickly developing Traralgon star deciding to stay with the Boomers for at least the next four years instead of taking up one of the plethora of USA college offers she has received.
With a dream of attending Deakin University to further her education, Chelsea is looking forward to continuing her flourishing career with Melbourne’s WNBL team.
“I’m so excited, this is a wonderful opportunity for me to keep playing basketball at home surrounded by my family and friends, and of course my teammates at the Boomers,” said Chelsea.
“The club has shown great faith in me and I can’t wait to take my career to the next level with the Boomers, it is such an amazing club with fantastic support from the basketball community. I’m also hopeful of attending Deakin University and continuing my education.”
Boomers Head Coach Guy Molloy believes the decision by D’Angelo to stay at home and focus on her WNBL career is the right one and is very happy with her current progress and commitment, particularly whilst also currently competing her Year 12 schooling.
“Chelsea is an exciting young prospect, she is very studious as well and has high hopes of attending Deakin University to progress her off-court career,” said Molloy.
“We have been delighted with her progress and know she will continue to carve out an exciting WNBL career going forward here with the Boomers.”
Melbourne’s decision to sign D’Angelo for a four-year term comes on the back of doing the same with Monique Conti, who was yesterday drafted at pick 4 by the Western Bulldogs in the AFLW competition.
Together they represent a strong future and highlight the club’s successful focus on working with local basketball associations to promote Melbourne and Victoria’s player pathway.
“We’re very happy to see another local talent coming through the Victorian pathway and would like to commend the excellent work being done by basketball associations here and Basketball Victoria. Together we are delivering outstanding results,” added Molloy.
Chelsea is expected to be in action this Saturday night when the Deakin Melbourne Boomers take on Perth Lynx at the State Basketball Centre at 7:30pm. Save 20% online and get your tickets at www.trybooking.com/BOOMERS
