Jaz Shelley To Join University Of Oregon After WNBL Season

Deakin Melbourne Boomers guard Jaz Shelley has announced she will attend University of Oregon on a scholarship following the current Chemist Warehouse WNBL season.

A rising star in Australian basketball, Shelley made the tough decision during a recent visit to the Oregon campus.

“Jaz is a valuable member of the Boomers family and we know she will return to play in purple when she’s back home,” said Boomers GM, Justin Nelson, adding “Jaz has a big WNBL season ahead of her right now, she is very focused on stepping up to the senior level and playing her role for the team.”

While excited about forging a college career, Shelley insisted the opportunity is one which she hopes will help her to grow as a person, as well as a basketball player.

“My dream has always been to play college basketball and I’m ready for this opportunity, but first I want to do all I can to help the Boomers win a title in the WNBL. This is my home team and that’s my focus,” said Shelley.

“Oregon has presented both a good basketball opportunity and equally a fantastic life experience, which I’m looking forward to,” Shelley added.

Nelson went on to add that “We hope Jaz continues to learn her craft and come back to us as a better player, and no doubt she will embrace the life experience. At the Boomers we are blessed with fantastic young talent and we enjoy watching them develop.”
