Ballarat Here We Come

The Deakin Melbourne Boomers will hit the road this weekend and head to Ballarat for a pre-season hit-out against the Bendigo Bank Spirit, marking the second time the two teams have met in the popular regional city in as many years.

Both teams are expected to have plenty of stars available, with the Boomers also set to have Chante Black on the court after the American’s arrival back in Australia last week.

“The support shown for women’s basketball and the WNBL by Ballarat Basketball and the local community continues to grow, the people of Ballarat have been fantastic, we can’t wait to get up there,” said Boomers GM, Justin Nelson.

“Speaking with both Guy (Boomers coach, Guy Molloy) and Simon (Spirit coach, Simon Pritchard), I know they really value the chance to not only have a pre-season game between the two teams, but to spread the WNBL message and showcase these elite level athletes in Ballarat is vital for the league’s growth.”

“Ballarat is only a short drive from both of our home venues, so we hope to see some of the Ballarat community getting a taste of the WNBL on Saturday night, and then during the season coming along to a few games in Melbourne and Bendigo,” added Nelson.

“The Boomers and Spirit are both really keen to promote the league and take it to a wider audience, so don’t be surprised if you see a regular season game played at the Minderdome at some stage in the future.”

To help promote the game, Ballarat Basketball has put together a special ticket offer with 50 per cent savings available to fans booking online and using the promo code: WNBLOFFER
