The Deakin Melbourne Boomers have added another player to its growing 2016/17 WNBL roster with crowd favourite Bec Cole signing on for another season.
The dynamic young guard missed last season due to a knee injury, but has since fully rehabilitated and is currently playing for Nunawading in the SEABL, preparing for her return to the Boomers.
“I am so thrilled to be back in the purple and gold this season,” said Cole, adding, “With our new ownership group and the addition of Lauren Jackson to the front office, the whole Melbourne Boomers program is going through a really exciting time.”
“The club is heading onwards and upwards to bigger and better things and I’m so glad I get to be a part of it and help create our growing history.”
“Guy and the coaching staff have helped me continue to develop as a WNBL basketballer and have been great during the last 12 months. I cannot wait to be back on our home court in front of our amazing fans this season and do them proud.”
“Not being able to play due to injury for my club and our supporters last season was extremely hard, but it has me determined to come back and achieve great things. Look out Melbourne here comes the BOOMers,” said Cole excitedly.
For Coach Guy Molloy, the news that Cole would be suiting up for the Boomers once again was music to his ears.
“We are very excited to see Bec Cole continue her career with the Melbourne Boomers. Her defensive aggression and great penetration were sorely missed last season, and we hope she continues the good form she has shown with the Nunawading Spectres so far in the SEABL. Bec will have a huge say in our success next season,” said Molloy.
The Boomers are expected to make further player announcements this week.
