On the back of news that Elyse Penaluna will miss the coming 2016/17 WNBL season, the Deakin Melbourne Boomers have welcomed Kelly Bowen back to the family.
The 27-year old Victorian played for the Boomers in 2014/15, before crossing the border and spending a season with Adelaide in 2015/16. Having just completed another strong season (22pts/10rbs per game) with Frankston in the SEABL, Bowen welcomed the opportunity to be a part of the Boomers.
“I am really looking forward to this upcoming WNBL season with the Boomers. The culture at the club is a strong one and something that the Boomers are highly respected for. I can’t wait to get started and be a part of the team,” said an excited Bowen.
For Coach Guy Molloy, finding a hard-edged player with considerable WNBL experience was important and he believes Bowen brings plenty of assets to the Boomers.
“I am very pleased we have been able to re-sign a former club person in Kelly Bowen. With the season-ending injury to Elyse Penaluna, it’s great to recruit a skilled forward who is experienced at this level,” said Molloy.
“Kelly is a good shooter and a physical rebounder, I have no doubt she will fit seamlessly into her old team.”
Bowen will wear number 24 for the Boomers. Join her and the WNBL’s family club with a membership – purchase yours today by clicking HERE.
The Boomers season opens with a home game against Adelaide on Sunday October 9 (3pm tip-off) at the State Basketball Centre.
