Boomers Add Star Sapphires Guard – Monique Conti

The good news keeps on coming for the Deakin Melbourne Boomers with U17 World Champion and All-Tournament Team selection, Sapphires dynamic guard Monique Conti, signing on for the 2016/17 WNBL season.

The 16 year old was understandably still buzzing from her success with the Sapphires when she was asked to meet with Guy Molloy (Coach) and Justin Nelson (GM), where the opportunity to join the iconic Melbourne club was pitched to her.

Coach Molloy was delighted when he saw the excitement on Conti’s face when she heard the Boomers family wanted her to step into senior basketball in the WNBL.

“We are thrilled to introduce Monique Conti to the Melbourne Boomers and the WNBL,” said Molloy, adding, “She is an outstanding young guard with a huge future. Congrats to her Club, School and State programs who have fostered such an outstanding talent. It’s why we love the Victorian system.”

Nelson echoed the comments of Molloy and said the recruitment of Conti sits perfectly with the Boomers vision of “developing and playing young Victorian talent in the WNBL.”

“Monique has shown fantastic progress through the Melbourne Tigers, at her school in Maribyrnong and within the Basketball Victoria system. No doubt all of her coaches and teammates who have been there with Monique during an outstanding junior career will be really proud of her and, importantly, her family has also played a huge role.”

For Monique, the offer to join the Boomers family and play in the WNBL capped off an incredible week and understandably you couldn’t wipe the smile off her face.

“I feel so privileged to be able to be a part of the Melbourne Boomers family for the upcoming WNBL season, I’ve heard so many great things about the program, the supporters and the culture at the club,” a beaming Monique said.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to further develop my game, and especially being coached by Guy himself. I’m extremely honoured and grateful to have been offered a spot on the team and I can’t wait to play alongside and against the best athletes at this level.

“Thanks to Guy and the Boomers management for giving me this opportunity, I can’t wait to be a part of the program, to improve my game and to be able to compete at this elite level,” Monique added.
