The Deakin Melbourne Boomers bounced into season 2015/16 with a strong 94-72 win against the Adelaide Lightning, keeping a record crowd of 1,411 entertained in what was an electric atmosphere.

Led by Elyse Penaluna (26pts, 9rbs), Tess Madgen (23pts, 9rbs, 9ast) and Alice Kunek (16pts, 9rbs), the Boomers overcame a slow start to storm home with a 71-46 run after quarter time.

With mascot Dexter the dragon keeping the crowd buzzing and a sea of kids getting involved in a three-quarter time conga line that was a great initiative by the club, the players no doubt enjoyed the noise and put on a great show with plenty of highlights.

In a new-look squad, the Boomers included four development players and as many as seven new faces in their team, signalling an exciting change for the season ahead.

With Madgen on song and going within a whisker of a triple-double, the Boomers fans also found plenty of cheer for the return of Penaluna and Kunek, while Maddie Garrick and Brittany Smart showed strong signs of what’s in store this season.
