The Sydney Uni Flames have edged clear of the Deakin Melbourne Boomers is a high-scoring contest, winning 93-86 on the back of a 63 per cent clip from the field and an impressive 58 per cent success rate from behind the arc.

The visiting Boomers, who also shot well (51%), jumped to a perfect start, capitalising on Elyse Penaluna’s inside presence to finish the first period with a 27-21 lead. The second quarter tightened up as both Katie-Rae Ebzery and Tahlia Tupaea found their scoring rhythm, helping to reduce the deficit to just 4pts at the long break.

The Boomers’ slight advantaged was washed away early in the third quarter as a string of turnovers proved costly, the Flames going on a 26-16 run to take the advantage heading into the last quarter. Though they clawed back the margin a number of times down the stretch, strong finishing by both Ebzery and Tupaea held the Boomers at bay.

Tess Madgen and Elyse Penaluna both piled on 28pts each, but an elusive third scorer in double-digits wasn’t to be found with Kate Oliver the next best at the offensive end with 9pts.

The Boomers now head to Canberra next Saturday night, before returning home for a huge game on Cup Eve against reigning champions, Townsville. Tickets to the Monday November 2 contest are now available at
