The Deakin Melbourne Boomers continue to add the final important pieces to its senior squad for the coming 2016/17 WNBL season with the news that NZ international Jess Bygate has signed with the club.
Bygate grabbed plenty of WNBL experience last season with Adelaide Lightning before heading to Melbourne for a successful stint with the Sunbury Jets in the Big V, but it was her impressive display at the Boomers’ recent player tryouts that caught the eye of coaches.
“We welcome Jess Bygate to the Melbourne Boomers family after an excellent Big V season with Sunbury and a strong performance at our recent sessions,” said Coach Guy Molloy.
“Jess experienced WNBL play with Adelaide last season and, as a NZ international, is used to matching up on bigger, physical players. She will add good defense and rebounding to our front line,” added Molloy.
Understandably, Bygate couldn’t hide her excitement when confirmation came through that she had picked up a contract to play with the Boomers.
“I am so excited to be joining the Boomers and be a part of a club that really embodies such a strong family culture,” said a beaming Jess.
“I am very thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the WNBL again, it’s such a competitive league, and with the guidance of Guy Molloy and the Boomers coaching staff I hope to develop my game and play with some of the best in the business.”
