Boomers Celebrate Deakin Day This Sunday
The Deakin Melbourne Boomers will be promoting higher education this Sunday when they take on the JCU Townsville Fire in a battle billed as Deakin Day, and the home team is expecting plenty of heat from the the league’s reigning champions.
Renowned globally as a leading university for sports management, exercise, sports science and nutrition, along with many other fields in sport, Deakin University continues to provide a pathway for many young professionals working in the sports industry and is the Naming Rights Partner of the Boomers in the WNBL.
With all roads leading to the State Basketball Centre this Sunday for the 3pm tip-off, a number of initiatives will be in place to help bring Deakin University students, staff and alumni even closer to their WNBL team. A section in the stands will be reserved for all Deakin students, staff and alumni, while lots of giveaways will be handed out to fans.
Two of Deakin’s very own students in Alice Kunek and Maddie Garrick will be in the thick of the action for the Boomers.
“We really enjoyed Deakin Day last season and this week will be even bigger again,” said Boomers GM Justin Nelson, adding, “Deakin University is not only an important partner for the Boomers, but for thousands of families across Melbourne, Deakin University is an extension of their family, too.
“We want to see students, staff and alumni coming to Sunday’s game and celebrating Deakin University. We want to see our Deakin partners being loud and proud, especially in the Deakin Zone that is being especially reserved for them. Come and fill it, make plenty of noise and show your support for your WNBL team,” added Nelson.
“If you’re connected in any way to Deakin University, here’s your chance to enjoy a fun afternoon together, come out and show your support for Deakin University and your national league team, the Boomers.”
