Knox Raiders Star Rebecca Ott Joins Melbourne Boomers

The Deakin Melbourne Boomers continue to build a strong Victorian flavour across its 2016/17 WNBL squad with the signing of Knox Raiders star Rebecca Ott announced today.

After impressing throughout the Boomers Development Player tryouts, Ott picked up a senior contract with Coach Guy Molloy impressed with the versatile guard.

“It’s a really exciting feeling to be joining the Boomers family. It’s a big step in my basketball career and I can’t wait to get started and make the most of the opportunity,” said the 22-year old when news came through that she had secured a contract.

“I’m really looking forward to working with Guy Molloy and all the coaching staff to develop my game and help me play at that next level. I also can’t wait to meet all the supporters, the Boomers have such a large following and a real connection with all the basketball clubs across Melbourne,” added Rebecca.

For Coach Molloy, the decision to sign Ott was a simple one – “she works extremely hard, has a great attitude and doesn’t take a backward step.”

“This round of tryouts delivered so much talent, Victorian basketball is in such a strong position,” said Molloy, adding, “Rebecca is a great example of a talented youngster who has worked hard at her craft, risen through the ranks at Knox and is now ready to take that next step.”

Knox Basketball’s CEO Stephen Walter was delighted to hear of Ott’s signing.

“Knox Basketball is most excited with the recent Melbourne Boomers player announcement that one of our local players, Rebecca Ott, has been included in the squad for the 2016/17 WNBL season.”

“Rebecca is a highly decorated Raiders player over many seasons and is greatly deserving of her opportunity on the WNBL stage. She is a homegrown Wantirna Jetbacks player and perhaps one of the hardest training players here at Knox. We often see Rebecca most days out practising on court.”

“We are looking forward to the Knox Basketball family getting right behind Rebecca and the Melbourne Boomers in what is shaping up to be an inspiring season with the Boomers permanently based at the State Basketball Centre,” added Walter.
