The Deakin Melbourne Boomers have called on the experience of Kristen Veal – one of the most enduring and admired guards the league has seen over the last two decades – to help the team overcome some early-season niggles.
With Brittany Smart and Tayla Roberts sidelined this week, the Boomers touched base with Veal, who had recently moved from Canberra to Melbourne, to see if she was available to help out.
Keen to assist, Veal stepped on court with the Boomers at training and was immediately accepted into the family, showing all the experience that has made her one of the most recognised players in the league. She will now suit-up this Saturday against Perth.
Boomers coach Guy Molloy said, “We are very excited that Kristen could answer our call so quickly. Adding such an experienced and talented player to our roster, albeit short term, will certainly provide the team with additional depth and options through a challenging series of games ahead.”
Tickets to this Saturday’s game at the State Basketball Centre against Perth Lynx (7:30pm tip-off) are available at the door or online at www.trybooking.co/HLXE
