Great news for Deakin Melbourne Boomers’ dynamic guard Maddie Garrick with selection in the Opals team for the coming Asia Cup to be played later this month in India.
Following a 10-day camp in Phoenix, Arizona, Garrick was named to wear the green and gold.
“It’s always very exciting to represent Australia, I’m really looking forward to the opportunity and the challenge ahead of us,” said Garrick.
“It’s a great chance for me to experience playing against other countries, while also learning more about the style of the Opals system that Sandy and the coaching staff have crafted.”
A crowd favourite amongst the Boomers family, Garrick’s selection comes on the back of representing the Opals in games against Japan in the team’s lead-up to the 2016 Rio Olympics.
“No doubt I speak on behalf of our members, partners, the board, players, coaches and staff at the Boomers when I say we are very proud of Maddie and we all wish her well at the Asia Cup,” said Boomers GM Justin Nelson, adding, “Maddie is an outstanding young lady, an elite athlete, a very talented player and an outstanding role model for all of our young fans to look up to.”
