One of, if not the, greatest rivalry in the WNBL begins again this weekend when the Deakin Melbourne Boomers and Dandenong Rangers lock horns for the first time in season 2015/16, which means the renewed battle for the Michele Timms Cup begins.
The Boomers currently hold the silverware after defeating the Rangers in two of the three games the played against each other last season, and it’s a trophy they hold dearly given Timms is a patron of the club.
“I have no doubt Michele will be watching Live Stats over in China and keeping a close eye on what promises to be another entertaining contest between us,” said Boomers GM, Justin Nelson.
On a busy weekend for the Deakin Melbourne Boomers, all roads will lead to the State Basketball Centre on Sunday afternoon when the SEQ Stars come to visit. It’s the first time the Boomers have played on a Sunday this season and the club is looking for younger families to come enjoy an afternoon at the WNBL.
“We’ve enjoyed some great crowds so far this season, but this Sunday is the first time we’ve played an afternoon game and hopefully that allows some of our younger families with young children to come out and enjoy seeing the Deakin Melbourne Boomers in action,” said Nelson.
