The Deakin Melbourne Boomers is pleased to announce the addition of Nicole Howard to its coaching staff for the coming 2016/17 WNBL season.
A talented and highly-respected coach at Warrandyte Basketball in Melbourne’s outer-east, and also within the Victorian development and State team programs, Nicole will step into one of the two Development Coach roles with the Boomers.
“I’m really happy to be bringing Nicole on board, she is an enthusiastic and developing coach who soaks up everything. She has a great desire to learn and we’re pleased she will be joining the Boomers family,” said Boomers Coach, Guy Molloy.
“Our desire to develop and provide opportunities to talented Victorians also extends to the coaching ranks, it is important we deliver progressive, inclusive and educational pathways for rising coaches here in Victoria,” Molloy added.
“Nicole is a welcome addition, we all look forward to having her join the team.”
Currently coaching in the Big V State Championship Women’s competition and recently an Assistant Coach with the victorious U18 Victorian Metro team, Howard is looking forward to the opportunity with the Boomers.
“I am extremely honoured to have been considered for the role and am excited to get started working with the talented players that have already been signed, along with the development players who will be selected in the coming weeks,” Nicole said.
“I have been a huge supporter of the WNBL and in particular the Melbourne Boomers program over the last few years. The family culture and growing fan base has made attending games that much more rewarding, and now I get to be on the other side of the fence and work within this great organisation.
“I am so grateful to Guy for the opportunity and can’t wait to work alongside himself and Al McAughtry. Guy’s philosophy of developing young talent is one I truly believe in and I feel fortunate that I will get the chance to contribute. The experience both he and Al have, and their willingness to extend their expertise to me is simply wonderful.
“I am very aware of the opportunity I have to learn and progress as a coach. I intend to repay their faith by giving my very best to the Boomers campaign for the season ahead. Having seen the recent developments with new owners and Lauren Jackson coming on board, and witnessed the hard work and fresh ideas delivered by GM Justin Nelson, it’s a very exciting time to be part of the Boomers family. I can’t wait to get started!”
The Boomers will announce a second Development Coach in the near future.
