With both the Boomers and Rangers dropping their first game in what looms as a busy weekend for both teams, the scene is now set for a huge showdown between the WNBL’s fiercest rivals when they clash on Monday night at the State Basketball Centre.

The Boomers are tipping a Cup Eve record crowd, hoping to surpass the 2,000 mark following news that all Corporate Boxes and VIP seats have been sold.

Last year the Boomers played Townsville on Cup Eve, attracting a crowd of 1,700.

“Sales have been strong, people are snapping up the reserved seats, it will be a fantastic atmosphere on Monday night and a showdown that everyone needs to get along to,” said Boomers GM Justin Nelson during preparations.

“We are yet to open up general admission tickets, it’s all about giving people access to the best seats in the house first. If you want to be close to the action, get online and book.”

The night will feature Nina Ferro, a finalist on The Voice 2016, singing the National Anthem and a song at half-time, while Boomers mascot Dexter will be holding a Halloween Party for all the kids on court before the players come back out for the second half.

“We’re really excited to have Nina with us, I’ll make sure we sign her up as a member and welcome her to the Boomers family with open arms. Look out for the photo of Nina wearing a Deakin Melbourne Boomers And 1 Supporter Singlet.

“And being Halloween we decided to give Dexter some lollies and next thing you know he’s gone and organised a party out on court,” mused Nelson, adding, “I’m sure the kids will enjoy Dexter spreading some Halloween cheer at half-time.”

Out on court the battle between two teams who have built an incredible rivalry over the years and traditionally play for the Michele Timms Cup each season is expected to be a gripping contest.

“People often say it doesn’t matter where on the ladder the two teams are when they play, everything just goes up a level, but with both teams equal on the ladder this showdown has even more on the line,” added Nelson.

“If you want the best family night out on the eve of a public holiday, believe me this is it. The Boomers and Rangers never disappoint!”
