The 2016/17 WNBL fixture has been released, with the Perth Lynx featured prominently as they look to go one better after last season’s runner-up finish.
The Lynx visit the Sydney University Flames in the season opener on Friday 7 October, before a trip to North Queensland two days later for a Grand Final rematch with the Townsville Fire.
Perth fans will get their first chance to see the Lynx in person on Saturday 22 October, when they play host to the Canberra Capitals, while their home meeting against their Grand Final rivals, the Townsville Fire, is schedule for Friday 2 December.
The home clash with the Fire will be the only game in Perth between last year’s Grand Finalists, but the early December meeting also marks the beginning of a five game home stand for the Lynx, a stretch that will be crucial in shaping the season for the team.
Though the team starts and ends the season on the road, with three separate home stands of three or more games provide a good opportunity for the Lynx to pursue another impressive season.
The Perth Lynx will host three Friday night games, two Saturday evening matches and seven Sunday afternoon games, as the team looks to back up their excellent home performances from last season when they finished with the best home record in the WNBL.
Following a fantastic first season as a new look franchise, the Lynx have enjoyed the return of several key players including Olympic duo Tessa Lavey and Natalie Burton, along with 2016 club MVP Sami Whitcomb and, with the addition of Monica Wright and Ruth Hamblin from the WNBA and Australian guard Tenaya Phillips will be aiming for great things in 2016/17.
