- Game Night
The Perth Lynx have been defeated by the University of Canberra Capitals, 82-87, after a second half offensive flurry by the home team.
The Lynx jumped out to a 10-point half time lead, but a strong Capitals third quarter made the game wide open in the final period.
Sami Whitcomb was on fire throughout the contest, and brought the Lynx back to within one point in the final 20 seconds, but Perth failed to capitalise on their chance to tie the game before late Caps free throws sealed the result.
Whitcomb (36 points, seven threes, five rebounds) and Carley Mijovic (17 points, nine rebounds, two blocks) led the way for the Lynx, while Toni Edmondson’s 13 points were a big factor behind the early lead.
The Lynx struggled to contain the WNBL leading rebounders, Mikaela Reuf and Marianna Tolo, as the Capitals edged a 35-31 rebounding victory.
Playing two days after their victory over the Townsville Fire, the Perth Lynx ran with a rotation of just seven players against the Capitals, and paid the price in the form of the hosts’ second half scoring barrage.
The Lynx now move to 7-4 on the season, and return home for another look at the Townsville Fire on Friday 2 December.
