Lynx defeat Lightning for fourth straight victory

The Perth Lynx have moved into outright first on the WNBL ladder after a strong road victory over the Adelaide Lightning, 75-63.

Both teams came out of the gates looking to play up tempo, but a 23-12 second quarter saw Perth break the game open before half time.

Adelaide made several runs in the third and fourth quarter, but the travelling Lynx did enough to hold on to their third road victory of the season.

Tessa Lavey was instrumental in the win, scoring 14 points to go with five assists and a steal, while Sami Whitcomb continued her fine scoring form with 23 points.

Kisha Lee played her strongest game of the season, scoring a career high 12 points off the bench, while Ashleigh Grant (three points, three rebounds) and Courtney Byrnes (two points) knocked down the first three pointer and field goal of their careers respectively.

Toni Edmondson (four points, six rebounds) worked tirelessly on the defensive end, as the Lynx held Adelaide to just 33 per cent shooting from the field.

The Lynx had made rebounding a focal point throughout the week, and worked hard for a 47-39 edge on the glass, helped by the work of Ruth Hamblin (four points, ten rebounds, two blocks), Natalie Burton (six points, three rebounds) and Carley Mijovic (seven points, eight rebounds).

Now sitting at 6-2 and in outright first position on the ladder, the Perth Lynx return home for a top of the table clash with the Bendigo Spirit on Friday 18 November.
