The Perth Lynx wrapped up their pre-season tour of Moss Vale with an impressive victory over the Canberra Capitals, 101-80.

After a fast start from Canberra, the Lynx settled well and outscored the Capitals 76-53 after the quarter time break.

Sami Whitcomb was explosive in the first half, scoring 20 of her 24 points before the main break, and had notched five three pointers before half time.

Ashleigh Grant (16 points, seven rebounds) and Carley Mijovic (16 points, six rebounds) both displayed a great mix of interior presence and outside shooting, while Toni Edmondson (13 points, five rebounds, four assists, four steals, two blocks) stuffed the stat sheet in all areas.

“It’s as good a hit-out as we could get,” said head coach Andy Stewart.

“It’s pre-season so you have to take that into context, but Canberra were playing hard, they were playing well at the start, and our girls were competing really well.”

Kisha Lee moved into the starting lineup in place of the rested Tessa Lavey, and rewarded Stewart’s faith with 10 points and six rebounds.

Tenaya Phillips scored four points to go with five rebounds in her Perth Lynx debut, while Tahlia Fejo knocked down a pair of three pointers for her first points with the Lynx.

The Lynx impressed with their defensive efforts across both games, with Stewart pointing to the team’s +20 turnover differential as a big factor behind the results.

“I was happy with the fact that we had under 20 turnovers for the two games, and we forced them into nearly 40.”

“I think we can go another level up as well.”

After a weekend that saw the Lynx score 186 points across two games, Stewart was extremely pleased with the team’s efforts in Moss Vale ahead of the start of the WNBL season.

“It was great to get the girls into an isolated area, no interruptions; we got to look at some video, talk a bit and bond a bit.”

“We played a good couple of games, you couldn’t ask for more than this.”

The Perth Lynx return home form Moss Vale having notched two wins against WNBL opposition, and will put the finishing touches on their preparations for the 2016/17 WNBL season ahead of the season opener on Friday 7 September against the Sydney Flames.
