The Perth Lynx continue their pre-season preparations with a trip to Moss Vale, New South Wales this weekend to take on the Sydney Flames and Canberra Capitals.
After a solid start to pre-season, the Lynx get their first taste of WNBL opposition in Moss Vale, as they take on the Flames on Saturday 24 September before meeting the Capitals on Sunday afternoon.
New Perth Lynx signings Kisha Lee and Tenaya Phillips are set to make their pre-season debut with the team, while returning Olympians Tessa Lavey and Nat Burton will enjoy a matchup with their Opals teammate Leilani Mitchell, now with Sydney.
Lynx coach Andy Stewart highlighted the importance of the road trip, with his team getting their first look at some of their WNBL opponents.
“We’re looking forward to having an opposition that can mess us up a little bit, make us make some mistakes so that we can adapt and get ready for two weeks time.”
With Lynx imports Monica Wright and Ruth Hamblin yet to land in Australia, former Perth forward Klara Wischer will join the team for the games, while new Lynx squad member Tahlia Fejo will also make the trip to Moss Vale.
Fejo, 18, was recently named the starting point guard of the South Australian Premier League All-Star five, and will train with the Lynx throughout the 2016/17 season.
While the Perth Lynx open the WNBL season against the Sydney Flames on Friday 7 October, Stewart insists the team won’t be focused on their opening night foes during the pre-season contest.
“We’re totally concentrating on us.”
“That’s pretty much us, and will be for the majority of the year.”
“We really would like to set a standard where they’re more worried about you than you are about them.”
The Perth Lynx face the Sydney Flames on Saturday 24 September, and Canberra Capitals on Sunday 25 September, with both games set for tip-off at 2:00pm AWST.
