The Perth Lynx have finalised their roster for the 2016/17 WNBL season, after signing Western Australian forward Ashleigh Grant.
Grant, a development player with the Lynx last season, has been training with the team throughout the off-season and is ready to get to work.
“I’m really excited to be back,” said Grant.
The 19-year old, who stands at 187cm, is coming off an SBL season with the Lakeside Lightning in which she averaged 13.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.
Grant represented Western Australia at the 2015 under-20 national championships, where WA earned a silver medal.
Her development throughout her SBL career has been impressive, with Grant’s blocks average increasing each year, and her interior presence was a big factor in her earning her first WNBL senior contract.
“It’s a new thing to me to be playing at a high level competition.”
“I just want to get better as a player, refine my skills and give it a really good shot.”
Having been with the Perth Lynx last season, Grant highlighted the strong relationships within the group, and credited her Lynx teammates with helping her development.
“They’re a great bunch of girls on and off the court, so it’s hard not to get along with all of them.”
“I love going against Carley (Mijovic) and Nat (Burton); really challenging the four/five spot.”
“But then I also love playing against Sami (Whitcomb), Toni (Edmondson) and Tessa (Lavey), the quick guards, because it really helps me work on different areas of my game.”
With the signing of Grant confirmed, the Perth Lynx roster is now set for the 2016/17 WNBL season, which begins with the Lynx facing the Sydney Flames on Friday October 7.
