Perth Lynx sign Courtney Byrnes as injury replacement

The Perth Lynx have signed Lakeside Lightning guard Courtney Byrnes as a short-term injury replacement for the injured Tessa Lavey.

Byrnes, 22, began training with the Lynx at the start of this week, and has joined the team on their season opening trip to Sydney and Townsville.

Standing at 180cm tall, Byrnes has played over 200 games for the SBL’s Lakeside Lightning, averaging 13.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game in the 2016 season.

With Perth Lynx captain Tessa Lavey set to miss two to three weeks following ankle surgery, and Tenaya Phillips and Kisha Lee “day-to-day” according to head coach Andy Stewart, Byrnes may see court-time in the coming weeks.

The Perth Lynx open the WNBL season this afternoon, when they face the Sydney Flames at 4:30pm WST.
