- Game Night
The Perth Lynx take on the Townsville Fire for the second time in seven days, as they look to claim victory in the Grand Final rematch.
The Lynx and Fire have played each-other twice this season, both in Townsville, and with the series tied at 1-1 Friday’s game marks an opportunity for Perth to claim the all important tiebreaker.
In their most recent meeting, less than one week ago, the Lynx held an 18 point fourth quarter lead, before an offensive explosion by Townsville trimmed the margin, though the Lynx closed the game out at the free throw line.
Toni Edmondson starred that night, recording a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while 20 points and nine boards from Carley Mijovic helped the Lynx claim a big road win.
Sami Whitcomb leads the league in scoring at 25.4 points per game, a full 6.0 points ahead of the next best scorer in the WNBL, and will look to continue her scoring form against a Townsville side allowing 75.0 points per game.
The front-court battle looms as a crucial matchup, with Townsville’s Kayla Standish and Suzy Batkovic combining for 36 points and 21 rebounds in the most recent meeting between these familiar foes.
The Perth Lynx host the Townsville Fire on Friday 2 December at the Bendat Basketball Centre, with tip-off set for 7:00pm.
