The Perth Lynx have been dealt an injury blow one week ahead of the season opener.
Captain Tessa Lavey has undergone surgery to remove a blood vessel from her ankle and will miss three to four weeks of basketball.
The vessel had swollen in such a way that it was placing pressure on a nerve, causing significant pain.
The Olympian is likely to miss the opening three games of the season and is targeting a Sunday 30 October return, when the Perth Lynx host the Adelaide Lightning.
The Lynx open the WNBL season on Friday 7 October when they meet the Sydney Flames.
