Toni Farnworth and her New Zealand Tall Ferns teammates have delivered a strong showing at the 2017 Williams Jones Cup.
The Tall Ferns secured a 4-1 record, tied for the best result amongst the six teams competing at the annual tournament in Taiwan.
The New Zealand national team defeated India, South Korea, Japan and the Republic of China White team, slipping only to Republic of China Blue, as Farnworth and her teammates continue to build towards the FIBA Asia Women’s Cup at the end of the month.
Farnworth started in all five games for New Zealand, averaging 7.6 points and 7.0 rebounds, while leading the team in assists (3.2 per game).
The Perth Lynx veteran opened the tournament with a bang, recording five steals in just 22 minutes against India.
She then backed up that performance with her best outing of the William Jones Cup, securing a double-dobule against South Korea (16 points and 11 rebounds).
The New Zealand Tall Ferns now move on to Singapore, where they will play a brief series before a final preparation camp on the eve of the FIBA Asia Women’s Cup.
The FIBA Asia Women’s Cup will be hosted in Bangalore, India, and begins on Sunday 23 July.
