Fire to unfurl championship banner

August 21, 2018 | Townsville Fire news

The JCU Townsville Fire will unfurl their championship banner in round one following the release of the 2018/19 Chemist Warehouse WNBL fixture today.

Having won three of the past four championships, the Fire will commence their title defence on October 14 against Dandenong with Townsville Stadium poised to host a raft of blockbusters this summer.

A Grand Final replay against Melbourne on Remembrance Day will be a must-see affair, while the Fire are slated to hit the road for the first time when they travel to Adelaide and Perth for the ‘Doomsday Double.’

With the WNBL fixture having been extended for an extra two rounds this season, the Fire will host an additional home game at Townsville Stadium on an 11-10 split.

“It’s an exciting draw,” Fire General Manager Richard Goodbody said.

“The extension of the season should be well received by our members and fans and they will enjoy the brand of basketball that we play.

“With 10 of our 11 home games being played across the weekend, this is a fan-friendly draw.”

The Fire conclude their regular season with a home fixture against the Sydney Uni Flames on January 21.

Fox Sports Australia will again broadcast one live game per round, as well as every finals game.
