JCU Townsville Fire captain Suzy Batkovic is the frontrunner to be named the WNBL Player of the Month after producing another star-studded performance.
For a third straight round, the four-time league MVP was named in the WNBL Team of the Week after posting a game-high 24 points and nine rebounds against Adelaide.
With the Fire entering the Christmas break on a three-game winning streak, the two-time defending champions will be looking forward to launching an all-out assault on the second half of the season commencing with Melbourne on New Year’s Eve.

Earlier this week, Fire coach Claudia Brassard praised her skipper, acknowledging her recent purple patch had coincided with some of the side’s best form.
“She never wants to lose and I think that’s why she’s such a great player,” Brassard told the Townsville Bulletin.
“She’s just so competitive all the time and she’s hard to defend.
“They (Adelaide) really don’t have the height or the bodies to match up to her.”

While a fifth WNBL MVP this season would take her past Lauren Jackson into unchartered territory, the 36-year-old appears more intent on guiding the Fire to a third straight championship.
Batkovic and the Fire return to Townsville Stadium on New Year’s Eve with a WNBL blockbuster against the Boomers.
