JCU Townsville Fire captain Suzy Batkovic has been named by Australia in a 12-player squad to face Japan next month.
The triple Olympian, who secured her fourth Wattle Valley WNBL MVP last month, will partner championship-winning teammate Cayla George in the front court for the three-game series.
The Opals will face the Japanese national team in Nagaoka on May 7 and then two games in Tokyo on May 9 and 10.
The warm-up tour will provide the Opals squad with their first international competition following two camps in Canberra and Gosford.
“Japan are a very good team to play,” Australian coach Brendan Joyce said.
“They are very quick and are good off dribble penetration which is reflective of many European and South American teams.”
Upon their return, the Opals will head to Europe before returning home for two final selection camps in Canberra and on the Gold Coast.
Australian squad: Rebecca Allen, Suzy Batkovic, Sara Blicavs, Natalie Burton, Elizabeth Cambage, Katie-Rae Ebzery, Cayla George, Rachel Jarry, Tessa Lavey, Tess Madgen, Leilani Mitchell and Stephanie Talbot.
