Tickets to the JCU Townsville Fire’s pre-season clash against the Bryden’s Sydney Uni Flames in Mackay on September 17 are now on sale.
Having captured back-to-back titles in March, the Fire announced last month that they would stage a community camp in Mackay to fine-tune their title defence ahead of the 2016/17 WNBL season.
With support from council’s Invest Mackay Events Attraction Program, the ‘Mackay Pride’ community camp will be staged from September 16 to 18 and includes school visits, coaching clinics and a showcase fixture against the Flames.
Earlier today, tickets went on sale for the pre-season blockbuster, with Fire General Manager Richard Goodbody buoyed by expectations of a sell-out.
“The Mackay Pride community camp will play a key role in our title defence,” Goodbody said.
“It will be the first time we are able to get our full squad on the court ahead of the 2016/17 season and we’re looking forward to getting some much needed match practice ahead of round one.
“We made a slow start to the season last year and one of the areas we identified was the need for a pre-season hit out against a fellow WNBL team.”
Having signed six players for the 2016/17 WNBL season, the Fire will announce the return of a two-time championship winner tomorrow and their first import next week.
Season memberships will also go on sale on Friday, July 1.
