JCU Townsville Fire import Natalie Novosel is relishing the opportunity to face off against her former team on Saturday night.
With the Fire having played at home during the first three rounds, the reigning champions will hit the road for a Victorian double against Dandenong – Novosel’s former outfit – before clashing with the Melbourne Boomers on Monday night.
During her debut season in the WNBL with the Rangers, Novosel averaged 9.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game before suffering an ACL injury which sidelined her for the past 12 months.
Having rehabilitated over the 2014/15 WNBL season, the 25-year-old made a cautious start in the Fire’s opening round loss to Bendigo before exploding against the University of Canberra Capitals and Adelaide with 17 points apiece at 64% from the field and 63% from beyond the arc.
“It will be a challenge because we are on the road but our pre-season and our intensity in practice has really prepared us for this and we should be okay,” Novosel said.
“We’re lucky enough to have a deep bench and I think that will definitely play a part this week.
“We have been going so hard at each other in practice so it’s going to be nice to go against an even higher level competition in teams that have shown their success in the league already so far.”
The Fire face the in-form Rangers from 5.30pm (QLD time) on Saturday night.
