The JCU Townsville Fire are ready to launch their latest championship assault ahead of the 2017/18 WNBL season.
With the WNBL poised to return to TV after signing a three-year broadcast agreement with Fox Sports in April, the release of the playing – and broadcast – schedule remains highly anticipated.
Since 2013/14, the Fire has been ranked number one in the WNBL across the following categories. They are:
* TV Audiences
Having played in four of the past five WNBL Grand Finals – including back-to-back championships in 2014/15 and 2015/16 – the Fire’s average TV audiences were 11% higher than the league average in 2014/15 and 15% in 2013/14.
Despite the WNBL not featuring on TV last season, independent media analysis from iSentia confirms the Fire was still able to generate more than $9 million in media equivalency without a broadcast partner.
“The JCU Townsville Fire has become a powerhouse of the WNBL,” club General Manager Richard Goodbody said.
“We have worked tirelessly to provide a great experience for our members, fans and corporates – as well as the North Queensland community – and they have been just as generous to us.
“Having played in eight of the past nine WNBL finals campaigns, we’re intent on returning to the post-season in 2017/18 and putting on a great show via Fox Sports and at Townsville Stadium.”
