JCU Townsville Fire forward Kayla Standish has been named in the WNBL Team of the Week.
Having enjoyed her best game for the Fire since returning to the club, the power forward was included in the line-up after top-scoring with 24 points and 12 rebounds against Perth.
Despite the performance, Standish was shouldering the blame for the Fire’s loss to the Lynx, suggesting her defensive output was detrimental to the side’s performance at the weekend.
“I guess I got some rebounds, but at the end of the day I really let the team down with my defence,” Standish said.
“We had to run them off the three-point line, that was our whole game plan and I failed at that, so we just have to keep doing that.
“We didn’t stop them on defence, so we won the rebounding count but if they’re making threes and we’re chasing from behind it’s going to be a long night.
“Our preparations were great, we had a great game plan but unfortunately we didn’t follow it very well.”
Standish is the fourth Fire player to be named in a WNBL Team of the Week this year, with Suzy Batkovic, Mia Murray and Amy Kame all recipients.
