JCU Townsville Fire captain Suzy Batkovic is expecting this week’s road trip against Dandenong and Melbourne to be a litmus test for the reigning champions’ fortunes.
With the Fire set to play away from their home fortress for the first time this season, the three-time WNBL MVP is well aware of the task at hand as they face an in-form Dandenong Rangers before clashing with the highly-coveted Melbourne Boomers.
“This weekend is going to be a completely different ball game to what we’ve faced over the past two weeks,” Batkovic said.
“We’re just making sure we’re ready because we know those teams are pretty stacked and match up well against us – they are big – so it’s going to be a great test.”
The Fire sit just outside the top-four with a 2-1 record, while the Rangers are 3-1 and well positioned in second place.
“Week in, week out, we’re training really hard,” Batkovic said.
“We’re definitely a competitive group. It’s constant from the beginning to the end.
“I think in that regard we’re definitely ready (to face off against the competition heavyweights).”
